Belize City- Last week the Government of Belize and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) signed a Cooperation Agreement aimed at developing police cooperation and combating transnational crimes.

The Agreement sets out the framework for police cooperation between both governments. The scope of cooperation includes the exchange of personnel visiting for study and training programs, sharing of information in the area of law enforcement, cooperation in combating transnational crimes and the implementation of other areas of cooperation.

Ambassador Liu also presented a cheque of BZ$100,000.00 to Hon. Wilfred Elrington on behalf of the Belize Police Department. This grant is for supporting the Communication Pilot Project of the Belize Police Department to upgrade the existing communication system. The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been one of Belize’s foremost development partners in a wide array of fields.

The signing ceremony took place at the Raccoon Street Police Station in Belize City earlier today.
