Belmopan- The Central Information Technology Office (CITO), formerly known as Belize National ICT Center, located at the corner of Mountain View Blvd and Dry Creek Street, Belmopan, was built in 2009 by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and handed over to Belize in 2012. Since then, the Government of Belize has fully utilized the center by consistently enhancing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and e-government services.
In order to accommodate the growing ICT demands, the Government of Belize expanded the building from the original two-story into a three-story in 2014. Additionally, this building also continues to host the bilateral technical ICT Projects between the Governments of Belize and Taiwan.
In recognition of the success and efficiency of the cooperation agreement, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is once again pleased to assist the Government of Belize with funding for the painting and repairs to the building in the sum of BZD $32,000. This assistance will further improve the aesthetic of the building and enhance the working environment for CITO staff.
Both Governments of Belize and Taiwan recognize the importance of utilizing ICT to enhance government efficiency, to improve citizens’ competitiveness and to further advance national sustainable development. Under this common understanding, the parties continue to cooperate in ICT projects, with applying Taiwan’s advanced ICT abilities to assist Belize in promoting digitalization and establishing an information society.
