Belmopan- Yesterday, the Directorate General for Foreign Trade met with its Public Sector Partners to review Belize’s Draft Trade Policy, in preparation for the final stages of the policy development process.
The Trade Policy development process commenced in 2017 following the launch of the Cabinet approved National Trade Policy Framework (NTPF) in June 2016. The GOB secured Technical Assistance from the Commonwealth Secretariat under the Hub and Spokes II Programme which is aimed at Enhancing Trade Capacity Development in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP). Through this programme, Belize has been provided with a National Trade Adviser (NTA), who among other functions is leading the National Trade Policy development process.
The DGFT has dedicated the past months to an extensive countrywide stakeholder consultative process to solicit inputs that would inform the Policy, which is currently in its draft form.
