
Belize City- Belize Airports Authorities (BAA) has announced that they are in the final stages of securing a loan from the Social Security Board (SBB) to invest in the reconstruction of the runway of the Caye Caulker airport.
BAA is looking to invest a total of 7 million Belize dollars in the project, which includes a elevation of the runway with 0.7 meter and the widening of the runway from the current 12 meters to 18 meters. Other work to be executed in light of the project is a better drainage around the runway and installation of runaway lights for additional safety.
BAA said they hope to start with the rehabilitation of the Caye Caulker in October of this year. According to BAA the preparation of the project is taking place in close coordination with other stakeholders, such as the Department of Civil Aviation and the local BTIA on the island.
BAA stated that they expect the reconstruction of the runway to last a total of 8 months.
