Belize present at Human Trafficking Roundtable in DC

Belmopan- Today, August 16, 2017, the Minister of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation Hon. Anthony Martinez, accompanied by the Attorney General Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, met with Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General for the United States Department of Justice. Hon. Martinez and Hon. Peyrefitte are in Washington D.C. attending a Roundtable of Human Trafficking Seminar.

During the meeting, Attorney General Rosenstein conveyed the United States’ commitment to strengthen ties with Belize to further address human trafficking, while Hon. Peyrefitte reported on the measures Belize has implemented to thwart human trafficking and prosecute offenders.

Attorney General Rosenstein also commended the International Legal Affairs Department in Belize’s Attorney General Ministry and relayed the United States Government’s gratefulness for the work Hon. Peyrefitte has been doing since assuming the post.

So far, Hon. Martinez and Hon. Peyrefitte have met with the Department of Justice and Diplomatic Security, and are scheduled to meet with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and the Trafficking in Persons Office of the State Department.
